Makeup Trend Decoded
Dewy faces, graphic eyes, glossy hair and sculpted lips: Here is the Makeup Report for the season, fresh off the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 runway.
Dewy matte: The no-make-up look continues to reign this season, this time with a play on textures. Matte faces had an ethereal glow, a classic trick of the illuminator that gave the models dewy-finished skin.
No colour: Most designers stuck to neutrals, and for some, the cheeks radiated a very natural post-workout flush.
Sculpted swipes: Chiselled, sharp shaped lips were created by Lakmé make-up expert Natasha Nischole and her team of artists. This trend was not only spotted on the runway at Anamika Khanna’s show, but was also a favourite for front row celebs like Deepika Padukone, who sported perfectly sculpted, deep burgundy lips, while watching Sabyasachi’s show. How do you sculpt lips? You’ll find out soon.
Matte nudes: Velvety nudes in peaches and soft creams were a hit on and off the runway–at shows like Manish Malhotra and on front-rowers like Neha Dhupia.
Deep darks: On one hand there were nudes, on the other, deep, dark burgundys, plums and reds at Tarun Tahiliani and Anamika Khanna.
Earthy browns: Molten eyes in monotones accentuated the natural color of the skintone at Divya Sheth, Gaurang and others.
Geometric shapes: Gold leaves extended from the temples towards the inner side of the cheekbones at Anamika Khanna. Graphic lines created with the liner were seen at Quirkbox, and the GenNext designers had make-up artists using the models’ eyes as a canvas for colourful shapes.
Loud lashes: Who said layering was only for the winter? Mascara was layered, multiple times on the lashes, to give the models a beaming face.
Structured dos: Elegant updos—twisted, pinned and knotted—were seen at Krishna Mehta’s show amongst others.
Centre-parts: The middle-part, seen at Huemn, Sabyasachi and others, rules this summer—in ponytails, straight hair, top knots—everywhere.
Slick shines: Surreal, glistening hair that shampoo ads are made of shone on the runway this season. This almost-wet look can be achieved using high-gloss hair serums and creams (like Toni & Guy’s Classic Shine Gloss Serum).
