Winter Trend 2015

So,  here we are on the last month of the year –  December.  December rings the bells of carols,  bonfires,  ear muffins and lots of coffee.

And of course, whole new closet for the season.

The tricky bit about dressing in this weather is teaming a number of cloth items.  The sweater, skirt, scarf and overcoat each cannot be telling a different story!
I say,  stock some standard colors of boots, coats and cardigans and play with the lowers and scarves. Find our list of Winter Trend 2015!

The Cape

This season we foresee a strong come back of the long lost Capes.  Capes are typically without a defined sleeve and are tucked at the neck.
We welcome the long and short of this flowy,  warm, maybe dual- sided, sleeveless garment.
Psst a Cape gown is a must have!

Pleated Mid-lenght Skirts

With “Keep warm, yet voguish”  being on our mind –  the skirts,  more long than short seem to be finding place in many’s collection.

We look forward to calf length pleated skirts.  With single sided thin pleats being the most loved.

Tassels and leather fringes on your accessories like belt,  bag,  boots and even skirts will be adorned this winter.

With neoprene being an ideal fabric to bend on your lovely curves and crisply bouncing out for that perfect fall,  without the use of can-can; it’s the new steal this season.  And the added plus being the warmth that this comfortable fabric will give.

Knee Lenght Boots

Boots –  Yes  boots,  we needless to say have been the patent footwear,  but our reiki says they get even higher up…  Up,  above the knees- wow,  those legs are gonna look taller.

Colours and Fabric for this Season

COLORS that will be on the pallet –  plum, marsala,  walnut, pecan,  rose beige and we are seeing shades of white and pearl too.

FABRIC – faux leather is loved for its bold leather look contrasting to its soft,  stretchable feel.  The tweeds and rough checks of wool will be used widely in bias cut. Undoubtedly,  neoprene will be the new thing this season.

Happy Stocking!

Bridal Makeup Kit Essentials

As a bride to be, before putting together your makeup kit, you must know what is your skin type and also be clear about your lifestyle needs. If you are someone who has dry skin, you need products that hydrate or moisturize. Creamy concealers, foundation and blushers are your best friend. Powdery makeup products wont help you. On the contrary, if you have oily skin, creamy products can be used but must be set with powder well else the product will shift.

In order to make this process seamless, here is an elaborate checklist to enable you to make sure you have everything you need.

  • First things first, you need to have a Cleansing, Toning, Moisturizing regime in place. Pick your CTM regime basis your skin type. If you have dry skin, use a moisturizer that is heavy in texture and if you have oily skin use one that does not add to the oiliness and is hydra-based. If you have combination skin, apply your moisturizer only on the drier patches of your skin. Skim over the T-zone.Clinique-Intro-Kits-1
  • Primers are a must have when you are putting together your kit. It helps your makeup stay much longer and adds brightness to the pigments that you apply. You must own a primer for your face and a separate one for your eyelids.

  • If you have dark circles or pigmentation around the mouth area, you would colour correctors to nullify the problem. Get an orange corrector for dark circles and to cancel out any purples on the face and a green corrector to cancel pink or red on your face.

  • Pick your foundation well. To begin with, know the kind of coverage you like. Is it sheer, medium or full coverage? Next, pick your colour well. Never test foundation on your hands. Always on the sides of your jaw or center of the face. Also remember, if you pick a foundation that is lighter than your skin colour chances are it will turn ashy. Refrain!

  • Always get powder to set your foundation in place. Its absolute must have. There are two kinds of powder: Loose powder and Pressed Powder. If you like you makeup to look natural and dewy, pick the former. Pressed powder can be used to fix foundation when you like extremely high coverage.

  • Eyeshadows add to the glam in makeup. It is one of the most important things in makeup. You must own 4 basic colours which are, a transition colour(soft browns or soft grey), a lid colour to add brightness to the makeup, crease colour to add definition to the eye and highlight colour for the brow bone.

  • On Indian faces, nothing looks prettier than kajal. I personally recommend you get a black and a brown kohl to add variation to your look. Also, getting a gel liner is a very good idea given the winged liner vogue.

  • Mascaras make a world of a different. What you are looking for is one that gives the desire effect, be it lengthening of lashes or adding volume, and has long lasting effect. Remember that you must replace your mascara every few months, as it tends to collect germs pretty easily!

  • Do pick a good blusher for yourself. If you are fair to medium toned, pick softer peaches and pinks for your skin. Darker pigments might look bruised on your skin. If you have richer tones in your skin, coral colour is fabulous for you.

  • When picking up lipcolour, know the texture that you like and the coverage you prefer. You will find glossy, matt, satin, velvet and sheer lip colours. Beyond texture, get a day colour and an evening colour basis your skin tone. Day colours are always softer than evening colours. Also, get a lip pencil to match the colour. Very Important!

  • Apart from the products, its important to pick the right tools. You must own a basic brush set made of natural fibers in order to blend in the makeup well. Another favorite is the beauty blender. Must Have!

Makeup Basics Foundation Application

Episode 6 of our basic series is up on our YouTube Channel and is on Makeup Basics Foundation Application.

After correcting, concealing and highlighting the very next step and most important step is foundation application.

Foundation is a skin coloured liquid or cream or powder product applied to the face to create an even, uniform colour to the complexion, to cover flaws and, sometimes, to change the natural skintone.

Remember that your foundation colour should not be too light else your skin will turn grey!

Foundations come in different consistency.  There are cream foundations, liquid foundations, powder or compact foundations, mineralised foundations, tinted Moisturizer, Oil-based Foundation, Sheer Foundation, Matte, or “Oil-free,” Foundation, Mousse or Whipped Foundation, Stick Foundation, Shimmer Foundation and Waterproof Foundation.

The best way to achieve a smooth and even complexion is to apply foundation before you do your eye makeup (*if you are using very pigmented colours on your eyes like blacks and blues then do your eye makeup first then your eyes) , cheeks or lips. The right shade will disappear into your face making it appear as if you are wearing no makeup at all.

We found that a foam sponge (beauty blender) is the best way to apply foundation, but you can use your fingers or a foundation brush. Its also important to use the right brushes for that flawless airbrushed look. My favourite is the stippling brush from Sigma and the buffing brush from Real Techniques.

Finding the right foundation can be daunting because there are so many brands and formulations on the market. Makeup sure you are picking the foundation shade by testing it on your jaw line not on your hand.

Makeup Basics Concealing and Highlighting

Episode 5 of our makeup basic series is up on our YouTube Channel. This time we came up with basics of Concealing and Highlighting.

Concealer is a type of product that is used to mask dark circles, age spots, large pores, and other small blemishes visible on the skin. It is similar to foundation, but thicker and used to hide different pigments by blending the imperfection into the surrounding skin tone.

It is used after correcting your dark circles or pigmented areas with orange corrector (for blue and purple undertones) and a Green corrector (for redness). We have a demo video up on our youtube you can click here to learn colour correction.

Best tool to apply concealer is by your ring finger. If you are using a cream concealer try to first warm it up between your fingers and then apply it on your dark circle. Always blend it in a dabbing motion and with a light hand. Make sure you are making a triangle while dabbing this will give you a good coverage.

Highlighting is used to brighten the highest points of your face and also those places where the concealer has been applied. Like on the bridge of the nose, under eye area, cheekbones, chin area, the cupid’s bow and below your contours.

Highlighting brings light to your face and gives you that dewy effect. Products which are used for highlighting can be powder or cream or liquid.

Makeup Basics All About Colour Correction

Episode 4 on our YouTube Channel is on Makeup Basics all about Colour Correction.

Mastering the art of concealer has a lot to do with understanding the basics of colour correction. Once you prep your skin which is your cleansing, toning and moisturising. We have explained this regime in details you can check our blog by clicking here . After your skin is prepped  up never forget to apply primer (check our blog by clicking here) primers are very important. They help to shrink your pores and makes the makeup application smoother and your makeup stays for long hours.

Most people skip this step and forget to correct skin using colour correctors for there skin pigmentations.

Green Colour Corrector  : The color green neutralizes the color red, which is why green concealers are wonderful for getting rid of any redness on your face. Use a green based spot concealer to remove redness from an annoying zit, or any acne scars. If you have widespread redness, (rosacea, windburn or sunburn), then a color correcting green primer will be best to significantly reduce redness and give an even toned base for flawless foundation application.

Purple, lavender, or lilac colour corrector are best suited for eliminating any unwanted yellow undertones on your skin. People with a pasty, dull, yellow complexion will love how a purple concealer or primer adds a beautiful glow to their face. As you probably guessed, purple is directly across from yellow on the color wheel. To remove yellow tones from your entire face, consider a color correcting purple primer. If you’re looking to conceal yellow spots, a spot concealer is best.

Orange Colour corrector For all of you with lighter skin tones, you will want to stay away from orange concealers for the most part. The exception? If you’re doing facial contouring and need something that can work as a liquid bronzer. Other than that, this color is perfect for people with darker skin tones looking to hide dark circles or other spots with deep discoloration.

Makeup Basics All About Primers

Episode 3 of our makeup basic series on our YouTube Channel is here. Its the first step of starting your makeup. A makeup primer is a cream or lotion applied before another makeup product like concealer or foundation to improve coverage and lengthen the amount of time the makeup lasts on the face.

Always remember a Makeup primer is a base for foundation or face makeup that allows it to go on smoother and last longer which is a very important product to own.

Formulas are available in cream, gel and powder. While moisturizer softens skin, and primer prepares skin for your favorite tinted moisturizer or foundation, giving it something to hold onto so it lasts throughout the day.

If you have oily skin, remember to buy an oil free primer. And remember: Face Primers are Different from Eye Primers.

Using your fingertips to apply makeup primer allows you to really work the product into your skin. It’s best to apply primer with fingertips for areas larger than a quarter. If only using for small areas, I’d recommend a brush. I like to use a concealer or lip brush for this. This spot-treat technique gives the look of a more natural finish.

Primer can even be worn on its own. If you love the fresh no-makeup look but want to look a bit more polished than when you first woke up? Primer is your answer. The product can be worn on your eyelids and double as a light eyeshadow, or it can serve as a lighter alternative to foundation if the primer is tinted.

Everyday CTM Regime

Our episode 2 on our YouTube Channel is on Everyday CTM (Cleansing/Toning/Moisturizing) regime. CTM regime should be a part of your daily routine for a healthy skin and avoid early wrinkles. We have answered all the questions which were asked by you according to your skin type.

CTM is an absolute must. It’s the basic skin care regime, one should follow twice every day, for the rest of your life to get and keep younger and healthier skin.
First of all choose your products to specifically your kind of skin type that could change with the weather change.
*For oily skin only use oil free cleanser and moisture, the toner should be astringent with or without alcohol depending on how oily the skin is.
*For combination to normal skin a cleanser and moisture that is more in a liquid form, would work best . The toner should be rose water.
*For dry and sensitive skin use a cleanser and moisture that is cream based , to keep the skin hydrated. The toner should be plain mineral water.

CLEANSING when cleanser is applied and gently massaged into the skin with your finger tips or with a cotton pad you are forcing the pores to gently open to flush out the dirt mix…gently rinse your face with lukewarm water or using a moist cotton pad gently remove all traces of cleanser.
TONING sometimes after cleansing traces of cleanser is left behind, along the hair line or at the curve of the nose toner stripes the skin of all oil .The pores are slightly open after the cleansing procedure, the toning will firmly close them. To tone either spray on the toner and dab well with cotton pads or a thin face towel, also you can spray toner onto a cotton pad and dab all over face to close the open pores.
MOISTURISING After the above two procedures, give your skin a couple of minutes of breathing space. your skin needs to be replenished and hydrated, use your moisturiser to do just that.

Real Women: Work Life Balance-Reality or a Distant Dream?

Work Life Balance: Does it really exist or are we just kidding ourselves?

In today’s fast moving world of instant gratification, we need everything and one does not make up for another. The story after happily ever after. Well we all know the story till the prince marries the beautiful princess, but question is what is the “happily ever after” and is there really a world as perfect as that. Let’s face it! The princesses that we all are cannot be happy just sitting at home waiting for our perfect soul mates to come back each evening. Certainly there’s more to life and we want a part of it. Honestly the life without the evil step mother or the evil sisters is just plain boring. Besides getting married to the perfect guy cannot be the end to the definition of a perfect life.

A perfect life is a struggle to strike a balance each day. A balance between the outside and the inside. A balance between the instinct to rule the world and the instinct to tend to every need of your partner and kids. We women, even without the society telling us, instinctively strive each day to be the perfect mother and wife. Thus bringing me to my point that to a working woman, the thing that matters the most is the balance of the work life and the domestic life, the peaceful coexistence of the two.

Today’s corporate life has become fiercely competitive and equally demanding and with the smartphones being such integral part of our lives it’s become more difficult than ever to draw that line. It’s not uncommon for the boss to call you on a weekend or post work hours to have look at an urgent email or have quick call with one of the clients.
How do you then draw the line? Well to me the answer starts from just saying ‘no’. It may not come as easily to us but in my opinion that is the single most important word that every woman really needs to learn.
So to sum it up, work life balance is not a mirage it’s a choice that we make each day by prioritizing and by being in touch with our true selves.
